Artist to Watch: Tiwa Savage

Tiwatope Savage - A.K.A Tiwa-Savage is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress.
She was first signed to Mavin Records in 2012 and is currently with Sony ATV Music Publishing.

Well known for her debut album Once Upon a Time which was released in 2013 and includes hit singles “Kele Kele Love”  and “Without My Heart” ;  her second album R.E.D followed in 2015 including the track “African Waist”. This multi-talented artist sings in both English and Yoruba.

Tiwa-Savage has co-written tracks the Grammy Nominated album Back to Me by Fantasia Barrino and has already received the MTV Africa music Award, the Channel O Music Video Award and City People Entertainment awards.

Despite her Nigerian origins Tiwa was raised in London from the age of 11 and her first musical inspiration was the trombone which she played in school. Having completed a degree in Business Administration she moved on to doing backing vocals for George Michael and performing on stage with Sting, 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, Robbie Williams and Destiny's Child, to name a few. At the age of 27 she completed her music degree at Berklee College of Music.

In December 2011, she co-hosted the second season of Nigerian Idol alongside IllRymz. Moreover, she made her film debut with Joke Silva and Ireti Doyle in the stage adaptation of For Coloured Girls. Savage became the first African female artist to be associated with the Pepsi brand after signing an endorsement deal with them.

In June 2016, there were reports in the media that Savage had signed a management and distribution deal with Roc Nation. On 29 July 2016, she made it official by announcing the deal through her Instagram account, thereby making her the first Nigerian artist to be signed to the label.
