July Jones is soul-pop inspired singer songwriter, born in Ljubljana. She describes her music style as modern soul, which to her incorporates a concoction of electronic pop and soul music. July says that she got a taste for these different kinds of music from her experiences of the world, as she finished school in America. It was this transition and chance to see how the world can differ which inspired her.
She has been classically musically trained since the age of six and has participated in singing in gospel choirs whilst studying in the United States.
July is currently releasing her four-track EP which she self-titled. The thinks that this EP will cement her hopes of an album, see the link at the bottom for details on purchasing her album.
Although she has proven to be an outstanding vocalist, July feels that her strongest characteristic is definitely her sense for songwriting.
July has been signed before and has written over 40 songs for various record labels and artists and definitely plans to progress in the future.
Speaking to the singer, she told us that “there are two things I’m trying to achieve with my music. First is a definitely a message of acceptance, I’m a huge believer in equality and as cheesy as it sounds I love people being themselves. I’m really involved in the LGBT, so supporting LGBT is a big thing for me as well. Secondly, I want my music to speak through my sound. When people hear my music on the radio, I want them to know that that’s me, so creating that dark soul/pop electronica sound is what I’m going for.”
Furthermore she states the likes of “Jessie Ware, Aurora, Allen Stone, Shura, Tegan&Sara and artists with that similar sound” as those who most inspire her. Continuing to say that “in life my biggest inspiration is definitely Ellen Degeneres, I think she did so much for the gay community that I’ll be praising her for the rest of my life.”
